Nutritional supplements and functional foods

Nutritional supplements and functional foods

Lesaffre Human Care supplies ingredients derived from yeast and aimed at manufacturers in the Nutrition, Health and Beauty sectors. Those ingredients have a wide range of applications in Human Health: functional foods, dietary supplements, cosmetics (as an active ingredient and/or excipient) and clinical nutrition (as a natural source of trace elements, vitamins and minerals).

The ingredients derived from yeast are made up of components such as vitamins and trace elements that are essential to maintain a balance in the organism's main functions (such as growth, cellular metabolism, immune system and anti-oxidation). A person's intake of essential nutrients is not always appropriate and/or sufficient and there may be a need to supplement their diet.

Positive opinion from EFSA on Lesaffre Selenium-enriched Yeast
Did you know it ? Selenium helps scavenging free radicals (antioxidant).
A scientific opinion from EFSA has been adopted on july 9th 2008 for “Selenium-enriched yeast as source for selenium added for nutritional purposes in foods for particular nutritional uses and foods (including food supplements) for the general population”. The positive conclusion of this opinion relates only to selenium-enriched yeasts complying with some characteristics, corresponding to the Lesaffre products, Lynside Forte Se +1200 and Se +2000.
Moreover, EFSA also expresses that Selenium-enriched yeasts have higher bioavailability and lower toxicity than that of inorganic forms of selenium.
