Lesaffre plays the innovation card again expanding its liquid yeast range for craft...

According to European Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006 on nutrition and health claims made on foods, the EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) was asked by the European Commission to scientifically evaluate the requests for authorisation of generic health claim (Art. 13.1), specific health claim (Art. 13.5) or health claims referring to the reduction of disease risk and those regarding children’s development and health (Art. 14).
Since October, 2009, the EFSA gave scientific opinions on more than 1 100 health claims requests. Less than a quarter was accepted. However, most of those relating to selenium, zinc or copper got a positive opinion from the EFSA.
Lesaffre Human Care’s yeasts fortified with these minerals (Lynside® Forte Se+, Lynside® Forte Zn, Lynside® Forte Cu) can be the object of generic health claims* like “helps scavenging free radicals” or “necessary for the function of the immune system”.
* Definitive authorisations, wordings and conditions of use will be published in the community register of nutrition and health claims made on food.
