Contributing to spread our know-how

Since 2009, Lesaffre Management Shanghai has been involved in the Shanghai Young Bakers charity. This organisation’s goal is to give renewed hope to young people aged 17 to 23 from disadvantaged families.

Access to vocational training

This project provides disadvantaged young Chinese people with training in French bread-making and Chinese pastry-making on a work-study basis (theory and practical training). Students are selected based on their motivation.

This is a real opportunity for young people who often discontinued their education in primary school. Every year, baker technicians at the Lesaffre Baking Center™ in Shanghai provide training to students and pass on their experience. This worthy project has now become long-term thanks to the financial and/or practical support of other partners.

This commitment also provides help to local families in difficulty by enabling their children to take vocational training in a profession where demand is very high in China.

Key figures

  • Since 2009, more than 150 young people have taken this training
  • Following the training, 90% of the students find work in bread-making
