What will your daily life look like?
The Global LAB Manager will manage the regional Biotech Application laboratories (LAB’s) teams located in Maisons Alfort (F) for EMEA, Laibin (CN) for APAC and Cedar Rapids (US) for NAM. He/she will be responsible for distributing and prioritizing the LAB’s workloads taking into account regional and global requests while coordinating with Lesaffre Corporate R&D to optimize the allocation of resources. He/she will ensure the adequation of the LAB resources and organization with BU global and regional strategies. The Global LAB Manager’s first priority will be to raise the standards of the LAB’s and organize the activity in order to create a paying medium optimization for Procelys customers. He/she will also participate as a member of the Development and Applications Team to the representation of Procelys technical knowledge to customers, internal stakeholders and the scientific community.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Define validation study procedures and experimental protocols standards taking into consideration current LAB’s resources and equipment, coordinate the implementation of the standards and work for their upgrading
- Assist new product development and product improvement initiatives: investigate product performances issues and keep close communication with Production, Marketing and Quality Departments to provide recommendations for development of new products
- Ensure the completion of the LAB’s projects and make sure that the results, reports and conclusions are suitable for use by the sales and marketing teams
- Consolidate investments of the LAB’s to ensure an optimal use of resources and coordinate and check consistency of the LAB’s budgets.
- Provide a reporting to the Leadership Team of Procelys
- Contribute to a technical competitor database
- Establish a dialog with chosen key scientific leaders in the Procelys field in order to develop cooperation.
- Draft and implement external research projects with academia or other research institutes as needed.
- Give lectures/talks or present posters in symposiums and technical events to ensure BU recognition and contribution to the industry
Supervisory Responsibilities :
There are three direct reports who are the leaders of the regional LAB’s. The current global staff of the LAB’s amounts to 9 persons.

Education and/or Experience :
PhD or Master Degree in Microbiology, Fermentation Science, Biochemical Engineering or related field, plus a minimum of 10 years’ laboratory experience in R&D or application development in the area of industrial biotechnology/fermentation, preferably from the bio-ingredients field (hyaluronic acid, amino acids, organic acids, enzymes, dairy cultures, probiotics …).

- Ability to manage a scientific team in a multi-cultural environment
- Be a good team player, ability to build strong relationship with other internal departments (Innovation, Marketin, Quality, Lesaffre corporate R&D, Operations,Technical Services)
- Able to communicate efficiently with customers, industry and science stakeholders
- Deep hands on knowledge and experience of industrial biotechnology and fermentation science
- Good knowledge of chemical/biochemical analysis methods
- Handling of traditional IT tools (Office). A practical knowledge in lab automation would be highly appreciated
- Ability to synthesize and interpret a variety of data from market, industry, scientific literature and from diverse origins
- Project management skills, including ability to be a project manager internally
- Curious, creative, and eager to learn and investigate new things; willingness to generate suggestions for improvements
- Self-motivated, and organized. Ability to prioritize and plan work activities. Uses time efficiently
- French & English. Other language skills will be a plus
