Job description

Main responsabilities :

o    Combine biological experiments data and theory, simulations, and data analysis to design optimized classical improvement schemes (breeding, evolution, and/or mutagenesis)

o    Develop new yeast biodiversity by using a combination of phenotypic characterization and comparative genomics, considering application relevant aspects

o    Being an inspiring “hands-on” scientist to drive innovation and operations in classical strain improvements using market assisted breeding (introgression, backcrossing, etc.), quantitative genetics and exploring the adoption of predictive breeding and phenomics, in strong collaboration with Microbiology, Data science and BioFoundry teams

o    Independently troubleshoot technically complex problems, and propose solutions or experimental plans to resolve or correct for them

o    Maintain high-quality documentation of your work and discoveries, in the forms of written reports, technical presentations, electronic lab notebooks, internal database records, code comments, and software documentation

o    Collaborate with multiple stakeholders in R&I organization in microorganism engineering at Lesaffre both in GMO and non-GMO areas and develop efficient screening assays and programs at Lesaffre

Qualifications

What about you ?

o    PhD or equivalent experience in industrial microbiology, quantitative genetics, statistical genetics, genomics, systems biology, biochemistry, computational biology, quantitative biology, or another relevant field. Interdisciplinary work is strongly encouraged

o    Wet-lab skills and knowledge of yeast physiology are strongly preferred. Additional organisms are a bonus, but not required

o    Expertise in genomic prediction methodology, advanced breeding technologies, statistics and experimental design, genomics, and/or quantitative genetics with a proven track record of delivering innovation through the interactions of these areas

o    Facility with programming in R or Python. Experience with best practices for collaborative software development (version control systems, test-driven development, good documentation habits) are desired

o    First-hand technical experience in at least two of the following areas: genome-wide association study (GWAS), mutagenesis, adaptive laboratory evolution, breeding, bioinformatics; sequence analysis; NGS analysis; synthetic biology; metabolic engineering and reverse metabolic engineering

o    Demonstrated ability to meet the demands of multiple concurrent projects

o    Strong curiosity of, and comfort working in, areas of biology previously unknown to you and, at times, your peers
